He was an official photographer of the Afghan Wars on the North West Frontier in Afghanistan and this album, a travel guide, covers his watercolors and photos of the Khyber Pass, Peshawar, and Chitral under the British. His photographic eye for composition and personality rises above the average photo-journalism of his time and the negatives from this collection now reside in the Duke University Library archives.
