The record of a journey taken in 1902 across Siberia, on the then-new railway, the first great Russian enterprise of the twentieth century. Leaving the subject of politics and prisons aside, this work is a description of the railway and the country through which it passes. Yellow cloth boards with black titles and Imperial eagle are lightly soiled. Text is clean, tight and unmarked save for one page of marginalia and a contempory illustration of the Kremlin that has been neatly pasted over the cartouche at the head of the chapter on Moscow. Author's signature and a brief warm note on flyleaf, then another note to the same woman on the next to last page. On the last free page are some notes in French from circa 1924 on St. Petersburg mentioning that the premiere of Stravinski's "Petrouchka" was held here. Also clippings on Russian history (from an encyclopedia?) are pasted on the endpapers.These are probably from the same hand in the mid '20's. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Dedication By Author.
